Affiliate links (Amazon Associate etc)

Updated: Dec 11, 2020

What's an Affiliate Link?

You'll see on many of my pages a notice that says "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases"

What does this mean?

As explained in my post on making money, it's possible to earn a small reward for linking to products on sites like Amazon. The earning potential varies with a whole host of factors and it certainly isn't huge but every little helps.

To make sure that customers don't consider themselves pressurised to make purchases by these links and ensure they understand that the link will take them onto another (in this case retail) site, Amazon require anybody that uses the Associates program to add this notice.

In addition, the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) in the UK considers any webpage, video etc with an affiliate link to be an advertisement which is why you'll see a warning at the top of each relevant page to this effect.

Why I use Affiliate Links

Personally I also want to be absolutely clear what these links are for. I'll reiterate what I've said elsewhere that it costs us all as creators to make the content you read and watch and the links are an opportunity for you to help support my costs without actually paying anything yourself.

You are under no obligation to use my recommendations, you are under no obligation to buy the tools or equipment I link to. I will merely say that if you do use them I am most grateful.

Thanks

Paul
