Just a note: All the ebay links below are for ebay UK, if they don't work in your location or the listing has disappeared I've tried to give search terms to use that should get a result. If you’re struggling, drop me a message I’ll try to help.
A glance at my YouTube channel will tell you I do a bit of paddleboarding (SUP or whatever else you want to call it).
If you look hard enough you'll also find some reviews on paddleboard inflators and some attempts at trying to inflate a board with things like the Ryobi inflator. It failed.
Well maybe failed is a bit harsh because it did manage it but it was sooooooo slow.
Anyway, I have two OutdoorMaster inflators (a Shark 2 and a Dolphin) and they're both perfectly good BUT I have to connect them to the car. In the last year, OutdoorMaster have also bought out 2 rechargeable battery powered versions of the Shark (the Shark 2S and Shark 3) and a powerbank that you can connect the car powered chargers to. But I don't have any of them and I don't have sufficient need to justify buying one.
However, the thought of releasing my inflators from the confines of car connection was obviously pacing around somewhere in my head because recently I was out in my garage and picked up one of my Ryobi One+ batteries and thought "hang on, that's an 18v battery, maybe I can use it to power my SUP pump?"
So a quick bit of Ebaying later and I'd found a Ryobi battery connector with a step down power converter attached and it was only about 15.00gbp. At that price I felt I had to give it a try and I can happily report it worked!!
I pumped my board up from almost flat to 20psi and only used one bar off the battery
I had to add a connector to hook it up to the inflator but it came with a Wago type connector so I could have just chopped the cigarette lighter connector off the end of the cable and connected it direct. As it is I'd already put a different style (Deutsch) connector on mine because I don't like the cigarette lighter style ones.
The Ryobi battery connectors with step down power supply are £13.09 as I type this in December 2024 and the price fluctuates but compared to the alternatives I reckon it's a cheap solution if you already have Ryobi powertools (and batteries).
Here's the ebay link to the one I bought: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/395820201058?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=wftyldxosvk&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=T6GuaQaUQcm&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I bought the 15a version but there's also a 10a and a 40a
If you look around ebay or Amazon there are also versions that fit DeWalt, Makita and Milwaukee.
As an example here's a 20a Milwaukee one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116259119847?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=AYjoGJnCRGm&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=T6GuaQaUQcm&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Just go onto Ebay or Google and search for "your chosen powertool brand 12v power adaptor" and you should get a result.
If you need a cigarette lighter style socket to put on it, something like this would do: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135155865692?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=t_wyllnmrc2&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=T6GuaQaUQcm&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Use an ebay or Amazon search term like: cigarette lighter socket 15a
If, like me you're not keen on the cigarette lighter style connectors you could do the same as me and replace them with Deutsch connectors.
But to get all "best practice" you might want to use 2 pin versions like this:
Use a search term of Deutsch DTP series 2 pin DTP04-2P DTP06-2S
