The oh so sketchy waterproofish DJI mic solution....

Updated: Oct 11

I just uploaded a video to YouTube about how I "waterproof" my DJI mic for recording audio when I'm out on my paddleboard.

Disclaimery type thing: There's no guarantee this will work. I'm happy to do it with my own kit at my risk. It's an explanation of what I do, not an instruction for you to do it. If you choose to copy my method and it all goes wrong, that's on you. Bored now, shall we move on?

If you want to watch the video, here's the link:

I wanted to give some more detail on how I do it and also explain where it might be possible to buy the bits I used to do it. I didn't have to buy all the items because I already had gloves and o rings from my old job.

Just a note of caution:- The links to buy on Amazon are affiliate links:- As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases

You've been warned!!

Let's get on!

The method then is to

  1. Cut a finger off a nitrile glove

  2. Push the mic down into the finger

  3. Twist the end of the glove (like you might with a balloon if you were going to tie it off). Keep it held twisted.

  4. Take your special tool (bent paper clip) and loop it round the twisted section of glove

  5. Thread the o ring onto the paper clip

  6. Pull a loop of twisted glove through the o ring by using the paper clip

  7. Remove the paper clip from the loop of glove

  8. Tidy up with scissors if you want (don't cut wrong side of o ring)

Here it is in picture form:

First - the assembled equipment

1: Cut a finger off a nitrile glove

2: Put the camera inside the glove finger

3: Twist the end of the glove (like you might with a balloon if you were going to tie it off). Keep it held twisted

4: Take your special tool (bent paper clip) and loop it round the twisted section of glove

5:Thread the o ring onto the paper clip (oops sorry, special tool)

6: Pull a loop of twisted glove through the o ring by using the paper clip

7: Remove the paper clip from the loop of glove

8: Tidy up with scissors if you want (don't cut wrong side of o ring)

Here's the same job with a blue glove as it may view better
